  • Pittsburgh walks for peace

    More than a thousand students, professors, and Pittsburgh residents marched down Fifth Avenue into Oakland last Saturday to mark the fourth anniversary of the beginning of the war in Iraq. This event was one of many in Pittsburgh and across the country organized by pro- and anti-war activists alike to make their voices heard as the U.S. began its fifth year of involvement in Iraq.

  • RIAA calls more students on illegal downloads

    Illegal downloading by college students has once again moved into the spotlight at colleges and universities nationwide. Last Wednesday, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) began apprehending college students for illegal music downloading at a rate more than three times higher than the previous academic year.

  • Students speak out in smoking ban survey

    Thirty-eight percent of students voted in favor of the university’s proposed smoking ban, while 52 percent voted against it, according to survey results released Tuesday night.

    The survey, administered by Student Senate, solicited students’ views on a September 2006 proposal to ban smoking everywhere on campus by 2010.

  • Sleeping with the enemy?

    A new proposal has suggested a University-wide mixed-gender housing pilot study that could go into effect as early as the Spring 2007 room draw. The proposal would allow students to live with a member of the opposite sex in university housing.
