    Andrew Carnegie himself is to be greeted in Pittsburgh this week with a reception in his honor. In its proposed program for the event, The Tartan indicates that the “Locomotive Spelling Cheer” will be given at 8:30 p.m., followed by the student audience singing at 8:35 p.m. That train of thought may be missing its caboose.

    The Tartan, waiting for office space in the “projected new administration building” (now Baker Hall), announces it will be headquartered in the Applied Science School’s committee room. The editors thank a Mr. Orbin for furnishing the room with a desk for the paper’s editorial board. Such luxury!

    April 19, 1911

    Three Tech students appear in this week’s Tartan for having taken a 200-mile car trip from Pittsburgh to Lock Haven, Pa. The article calls the travel time of 22 hours and 40 minutes “remarkably good.” At one point, the car, stuck in mud up to its hubcaps, had to be coaxed free by tearing down a nearby fence to put underneath it.
